Fishing Report

Millwood Reservoir

04-07-08 thru 04-11-08
The fishing was great again this year even with bad weather.  The numbers were down a little but we go for size and size we got.  Most of the fish went over a 1.5lbs. and eight of them went over 2lbs.  Take a look at some of the quality fish below.

Check out my brother Fred. He looks like he's posing for a magazine. What a beautiful lake. I've been fishing this lake and others in the area with my brother-in-law for about 15yrs.  My wife was raised about 10min from the lake.  The fishing is unbelievable for size.  We probably caught 80-90 crappie over four days and the average size was ~1.5lbs.  I've never caught so many 2lb crappie at one time.  A couple of the locals caught 3lbers from the bank.  It was like a big family gathered around the lake. People were talking smack, catching fish, having a good ole time. All of the fish were caught from 1- 4 feet deep. Females were starting to come in on the last day of fishing. If you can get there, go and fish this lake. You will not be disappointed. I can't wait till next year.

Cedar Creek Lake

The fishing was very good today.  The whole family got in on the action today.  We only brought home 25 keepers but the bite was steady all day. We probably threw back 15 small fish and we lost a few.  All of the fish were caught at the 198 bridge.  They were hanging around the ledge between the pillars.  The two biggest fish to the left were 2lbs and 1lb10oz.  We caught our fish on blue and yellow jigs but I saw a lot of different colors tied on by other fishermen who were catching fish also.

Grapevine

Fished today with my friend and co-worker, Phong.  He took some nice crappie home. His son really wanted to go fishing with us but he had to go to school instead. The fish have been hitting around the condos all summer. They were biting around 12 to 15 feet down in 20 feet of water. It doesn't look like it on the pic, but the one in his right hand went 2lbs easily.

The weather this week was somewhat unexpected for this time of year but it was a pleasant surprise.  My brother (The Rev Bobby Brown) and I fished 3 days straight. We brought an average of 15 nice crappie to the house each day.  They were biting right off the bottom. Here's a pic of the Rev holding a couple.

Lake Lewisville:

What a day "Big Joe" and I had at Little Elm.  The bites only lasted about 3hrs, but man was it fun.  We probably caught a total of 30 fish or more. Joe was able to take some nice fish home to his wonderful wife which means its okay for me to ask her for a delicious sweet potato pie over the holidays.   Check out the 1lb, 11oz crappie Joe landed.

Lake Ray Roberts:

05-29-03

What a wonderful morning.  The wind was calm to 5mph and I was fishing with my good friend Carlos.  We docked at Pecan Creek.  We started fishing in the center of the east bridge.  The water temp was 76 degrees and the lake was lively with fish jumping around everywhere.  We caught a few little fish and Carlos caught one keeper.  Overall the fishing was slow. We gave it about 45min then we strapped down and headed for the west bridge. The wind was blowing just enough to make a ripple in the water on the west side.  I think that made the difference.  We started catching the fish one after another. Carlos caught a 1lb 10oz crappie somewhere in the middle of the action.  It lasted about 90min.  The wind slowed to nothing and so did the bites.  We ended the day with 9 keepers. Check out Carlos.

My friend James and I arrived at the lake around 10:00a.m..  We docked at Pecan Creek. A cold front had moved in overnight and the temp was in the upper 60's. The water temp read from 70 to 74 degrees. It was the first time James had been Crappie fishing but it didn't show.  He caught a crappie in less than 30 seconds after he began fishing. The fish were biting about 14ft down. We probably caught about 30 fish total. We brought home 10 keepers. It was a pretty good day for 4 hours of fishing. Check out James below.
